The University of Vermont Health Network - Champlain Valley Physicians Hospital Accounts Receivable Specialist in Plattsburgh, New York

The Accounts Receivable Specialist works under the supervision of Revenue Cycle Manager to ensure the accurate and timely completion of the duties and responsibilities of the position. S(he) is responsible to ensure maximum reimbursement from all third party payers S(he) must regularly use independent judgment to interpret and apply policies, procedures and practices. Judgments potentially have a broad financial impact on the agency.

  • Maintain system for outstanding claims for third party payers that he/she is responsible

  • Follow up on unpaid claims to third party players after 45 and before 90 days from claim date including claims appeal

  • Resolve claims/billing problems including but not limited to those identified through GE Group Management task management module to ensure timely claims processing

  • Appeal, re-file corrected claim, or transfer balance to patient responsible per CVPH procedure for denied claims

  • Document on GE Group Management activity including but not limited to filling of claims, appeals, telephone or written correspondence and responses

  • Provide customer service to patients on billing/insurance related matters as needed

  • Back-up to Payment Poster/Insurance Follow-up and Billing Specialist(s) positions as needed

  • Other duties as assigned

  • High School graduare or equivelent

  • Minimum 3 years experience in health care setting

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Good written and verbal communication skills

  • Working knowledge of procedure and diagnosis coding

  • Understandment and comnmitment to CVPH core values of teamwork, commitment, confidentitality and quality care

  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with staff, patients and external customers

  • Maintain confidentiality and support the goals and objectives of CVPH

  • Utilize available business technology to perform assigned duties

  • Ability to make appropriate decisions with a minimum amount of supervisory direction

  • Basic computer skills

  • Knowledge of medical software plus

  • As applicable, the individual has training/competency in attending to the special needs and/or behaviors appropriate to the age of the patients for which care is being provided.
