Job Description:

Budget Title: Senior Counselor (SL-4)

Salary: $43,000 - 47,000 (College-Year)

Binghamton University's Counseling Center offers a full-time 10-month renewable position with benefits for a counselor providing mental health counseling services to a culturally diverse student population. This is a generalist position serving students with a wide range of issues with strong preference given to applicants with interest and experience in multicultural counseling, and in particular with interest and experience in working with students with historically underrepresented backgrounds. Early career applicants are welcome. Duties of the position include short-term individual and group counseling, crisis work, assessment, consultation or outreach outside of core business hours; availability to flex time into the evening is preferred but not required. All clinical staff positions involve some administrative duties and roles.

Requirements:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Master's degree in mental health or related field

  • Licensure or eligibility for licensure to practice in New York eligible (i.e., meeting all criteria for licensure except supervision hours and/or licensing exam; or licensed in another state with clearly comparable licensing requirements)

  • Broad "generalist" clinical competence in assessing and intervening with a wide range of disorders, concerns, and degrees of pathology

  • Experience or interest in providing group therapy

  • Willingness to utilize a time-limited model of care

  • Ability to handle a busy caseload in a dynamic environment, demonstrating a strong work ethic and a willingness to collaborate

  • Multicultural awareness, knowledge, understanding, responsiveness, and skills to work with culturally diverse populations

  • Proficiency in oral and written communication skills, public speaking, and leading group discussions

  • Ability to handle spontaneous work demands while undertaking projects that require advance planning

  • Commitment to a proactive student development perspective involving an active relationship with the campus community

  • Team-oriented, "user-friendly" to students and university staff

  • The position will at times require consultation or outreach outside of core business hours; availability to flex time into the evening is preferred but not required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong preference may be given to applicants with interest and experience in multicultural counseling, and in particular with interest and experience in working with students with historically underrepresented backgrounds

  • LCSW credential, LMHC, or Doctorate in Counseling Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or related field. ABD's will be considered; post-doctoral supervision for licensure can be provided. These credentials are not required but may be given consideration. Again, early career professionals are welcome to apply

  • Preferred experience in a higher education counseling center and/or with young adults in a clinical setting

  • Active participation in relevant professional organizations
